These bacon-wrapped green beans make a fantastic side dish for everyday cooking or special occasions like Thanksgiving, Easter, or Christmas. Bacon is the perfect flavor enhancer! We typically serve dish this with meatloaf, and it also pairs well with smoked turkey or glazed ham. This recipe only requires two ingredients! You can cook them on any outdoor grill, in a skillet, air fryer, or your oven.
Why wrap green beans in bacon?
Much like asparagus, green beans retain a bit of crunch when grilled. It is the perfect substitution for asparagus, and the bacon adds a bit of salt and smokiness to the green beans.
Should I blanch the green beans before wrapping them in bacon?
No, you do not have to blanch the green beans before wrapping them in bacon. However, if you’d prefer a tender texture, consider blanching them in boiling water for 4 minutes in a large pot of water. Transfer them into a bowl of ice water for 2 minutes to halt the cooking process. Drain and then dry them off with paper towels before wrapping them in bacon.
Ingredients
- 1 1/4 pound or 40-48 fresh green beans (french green beans or haricot verts)
- 8-10 strip of thin-cut bacon
- Optional ingredients: garlic powder, black pepper, or brown sugar
How to Make Bacon-Wrapped Green Beans
- Clean and trim: Wash green beans in cold water and blot dry with paper towels. Remove stems and separate into groups of 5-6 green beans per bundle.
- Bacon: Wrap each bundle with a strip of bacon, making sure the seam is underneath the bundle. Gently secure with a toothpick as needed.
- Preheat your grill to 375 degrees F or medium-high heat.
- Grill them: Place bundles seam side down onto the grill grates or griddle. Cook for 3-4 minutes. Gently turn and cook for another 3-4 minutes until the bacon has cooked through.
- Keep an eye on them: If flare-ups occur, reduce the temperature or move to the indirect zone of your grill to finish cooking.
- Serving: Once cooked, remove bundles from the grill and serve immediately.
- Storing leftovers: Place bacon-wrapped green beans in an airtight container. Store in the refrigerator for 3-4 days. Reheat in a skillet or 350-degree oven until warmed all the way through.
Do you have to use green beans?
No, of course not. You can wrap most vegetables in bacon. Use items that cook at the same rate as the bacon: sliced bell peppers, asparagus spears, summer squash, carrots cut into strips, etc. We don’t recommend using winter gourds or potatoes unless they have been parboiled before wrapping.

Should I parboil the green beans? We like a little bit of crunch to our green beans, so this recipe does not call for parboiling. However, if you’d like your beans to be soft, you can parboil the green beans for 6-8 minutes. Dip them into cold water to halt the cooking process, dry them off, and wrap in bacon. This is meant to be a simple green bean bundle, so don’t overthink it!
