Making a Ham Glaze

  • Melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Add maple syrup, brown sugar, soy sauce, pineapple jelly, mustard, and spices.
  • Reduce heat to low and allow the glaze to simmer until it starts to thicken. The mixture should resemble a thick syrup.
  • Once the glaze reaches the proper consistency, remove the pot from heat and cool for 10-15 minutes.
  • Brush the pineapple-maple glaze onto the ham during the second half of cooking time.
  • If you plan to cook the ham on your smoker or pellet grill, please refer to our Double-Smoked Ham recipe for detailed information on when to apply the ham glaze.

Other uses:

Use this pineapple-maple ham glaze on other meats and even meat substitutes. Brush the glaze onto grilled or baked chicken, pork chops, seafood kebabs, and meat substitutes like tofu. As directed above, use the pineapple-maple glaze during the second half of cooking time. Make a double batch and reserve half of the glaze to drizzle onto your favorite grilled items right before serving. Delicious!

Recipe variations

  • No mustard: Not a fan of mustard? That’s okay! Simply omit it from the recipe.
  • Spice it up: Like your ham glaze a little spicy? Substitute the mustard for sriracha or gochujang paste Or, add a pinch or two of cayenne pepper to the mixture.
  • Pineapple: Some folks are allergic to pineapple or simply do not like the flavor, and that’s okay! Substitute the pineapple jelly for peach, apricot, or mild pepper jelly.
