Forty-Seven Hotel, Manchester

Manchester is one of our favourite cities in the UK and we love the eclectic mix of hotels there are to choose from in one of Britain’s most vibrant cities and we were lucky enough to stay at one of the newest to open recently – the wonderfully designed, Forty-Seven Hotel, Manchester’s latest hotel at 47 Peter Street. If, like us, you like to be a literal stone’s throw from some craft beer at all times, Forty Seven could seldom be better positioned given its proximity to both a Brewdog bar and the cavernous German beer house, Albert Schloss.

47 Peter Street is a historic building in Manchester with a rich history. It was originally built in 1868 as a shipping warehouse and was designed by the Manchester architectural practice of Walters, Bark and Ellis. The building is located on the corner of Peter Street and Southmill Street and has seen many changes over the years. In the 19th Century, the warehouse was a neighbour of the Gaiety Theatre.

Having only been open for a couple of months, it’s impressive to see how slickly Forty Seven is operating already and its location on Peter Street in the heart of the city couldn’t be better positioned for experiencing the myriad sights and sounds that Manchester has to offer. Located in a beautiful Grade-II Listed building, there is a real sense of grandeur to the exterior which gives way to a much more cosy reception space within. Following our wonderful welcome to this majestic-looking hotel, we were directed to our suite located on the first floor and, it’s safe to say, it’s definitely one of the most spectacular and well-appointed rooms we’ve had the pleasure to reside in this year.

There is a really striking Art Deco style aesthetic to large parts of the interiors at Forty Seven which tallies perfectly with the heritage feel of the building and the team behind the hotel has done a magnificent job of expertly combining the old and new elements of the building to deliver the sort of luxury boutique hotel we always gravitate towards here at The Coolector. Peter Street is well known to be one of Manchester’s most vibrant and happening areas and this vibe is definitely reflected in the playful design flourishes witnessed throughout the hotel and everywhere you look, there are eye-catching interior design choices that immediately draw the eye and make the hotel a relaxing and rewarding place to stay.

Boasting both an excellent bar, The Peterman, that will sling delicious craft cocktails until your heart’s content. A ‘Peterman’ was known as a safecracker, someone who could crack into safes without the key or combination. Make your way down to The Peterman, our lavish bar, to see where they would discuss plans and share trade secrets. In addition to this bar, there is an Indian-inspired restaurant, Asha’s, that will take you on a culinary adventure through India’s famed North-West frontier province, for a regal feast where tradition meets modernity to create a uniquely elevated dining experience, Forty Seven has everything you need right there within its four walls if you don’t feel like venturing out in Manchester’s bustling, electrifying streets.

We were lucky enough to stay in one of Forty Seven’s suites during our one-night stay and it really was luxury personified with a real attention to detail having gone into the layout and fixtures and fittings throughout the room. Safe to say we were mighty impressed upon opening the door for the first time and it left a lasting impression that definitely has us wanting to return in the future. Each of the rooms and suites provide well-appointed luxury fittings, as well as a variety of textures which make for a sensual space to call home for the night or to catch ‘Forty-Seven’ winks. They all have extra touches like coffee machines, smart TVs, mini-bar, black-out blinds and much more besides.

Forty Seven might be one of Manchester’s newest hotels but it is already one of its most impressive in our opinion and for anyone looking for a relaxing and luxurious stay right in the heart of the city, this one really will be tough to beat. With great food and drink on offer both inside the hotel and right upon its doorstep, its location is second to none and the hotel has been decorated beautifully to make it a real stand-out addition to Manchester’s already excellent hotel scene. Definitely recommended.
