The team at Danish brand, REC, have long been amongst our favourite watchmakers here at The Coolector courtesy of the fact that they go above and beyond the call of duty to make genuinely interesting timepieces typically hewn from iconic machines. So it has proven once again with their latest offering – the Kneivel TTT Watch – which is a limited edition timepiece crafted from Evel Knievel’s “Shark Jump” XR750, his final stuntbike. Only 736 pieces will be made and, at the time of writing, only 301 remain – so move fast if you want to add this action-packed timepiece to your wrist this winter.
If you pre-order your REC Evel Kneivel TTT Watch now, you get 15% off the final retail price, so this watch can be on your wrist for £1610 as opposed to £1895. Win, win. One of Evel Kneivel’s most iconic quotes was “Anybody can jump a motorcycle…The trouble begins when you try to land it” and this spirit is something that infuses this excellent-looking timepiece from the guys at REC. There is barely a person out there that won’t have heard of Evel Kneivel – something testament to his ongoing legacy.
Clad in his trademark star-spangled red, white, and blue jumpsuits, Knievel attempted dangerous stunts in his decade-long career including 175 ramp-to-ramp motorcycle jumps and some of his efforts of the stuff of legend. This impeccably crafted and highly unique timepiece is a fitting tribute to the daredevil’s endeavours.
Knievels final, high-profile, nationally broadcast performance was the Chicago Shark Jump of 1977 and, as always, it was quite the spectacle. REC Watches received the original handlebar clutch levers from the XR750 ridden by Evel Knievel during the Shark Jump, which has been reforged into these magnificent timepieces from REC and will be a real talking point and focal point of any collector’s lineup of watches. The star attraction of this timepiece is the 12-o’clock dial marker which is crafted from reforged aluminium from the handlebar levers of Evel Knievels XR750 Shark Bike. Adding both visual and historical depth to each timepiece, the recycled material looks unique in every single TTT KNIEVEL timepiece.
The open-worked dial and exhibition caseback on this Evel Kneivel-inspired offering allows a full display of the skeletonized SW200-1Sb movement and it’s a movement worth witnessing. This calibre boasts bold, black ruthenium plating and a rotor that takes its aesthetic inspiration from the spoked motorcycle wheels with a sunburst-finished oscillating weight. On the inside of the caseback crystal, Evel Knievel’s trademark signature is printed in blue to add a real air of authenticity to proceedings.
The TTT KNIEVEL Watch from REC uses an in-house developed dual case construction, meaning the user can effortlessly switch between RIDE and DRESS wearing modes using the crown or bezel. In RIDE mode, the inner case is rotated a full 30 degrees clockwise, meaning that the 12 o’clock dial and bezel markers are now positioned for a skewed viewing position, for example when wielding the handlebars of a motorcycle. In reference to his showmanship, hidden engravings on the inner case system are visible in the cut-out area adjacent to where the crown meets the case, with the RIDE position showing a shooting star and the DRESS position reading “SHOW TIME”. It’s the little touches that really make this watch soar as high as Kneivel himself. Like what you see – head over to REC now and grab yours with 15% off.
