The Las Vegas Raiders haven’t had the best offseason thus far.
They did the right thing by removing the ‘interim’ tag from Antonio Pierce’s head coaching position, but they don’t have all that much more to brag about.
Kliff Kingsbury removed himself from the offensive coordinator’s job consideration to join the Washington Commanders, so they had to go after Luke Getsy instead.
According to a report by Jeremy Fowler of ESPN, Rich Scarangello is the leading candidate to be their next quarterbacks coach.
Scarangello comes with experience as an offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at both the NFL and collegiate levels, but he’s never led a top-notch offense, so the fans might not be thrilled to hear about this hire.
His last experience came with the Kentucky Wildcats in 2022, where he served as offensive coordinator and QB coach for seven months before being fired.
The Raiders have been rumored to be in the mix for a top quarterback prospect in the upcoming NFL Draft, and some believe they might even trade up to get the right guy.
However, Luke Getsy likes to deploy run-heavy offenses, so whoever they get in the draft might have a hard time making the adjustment to the pros early in his career.
At least this team has a strong defensive identity and proved to be up to the task in the second half of the season under Coach Pierce.
