After another mediocre season by the Pittsburgh Steelers’ standards, the storied NFL franchise headed into the offseason with a lot of the team’s concern being on the offensive side of the football, especially when it comes to the quarterback position.
Even though Kenny Pickett was thought to be the team’s franchise quarterback moving forward, he did nothing to move the needle during the 2023 campaign, which may result in the team heading in another direction with a veteran during the offseason.
Over the past few weeks, there’s been a lot of speculation about the Steelers potentially pursuing veteran quarterback Russell Wilson to lead the offense moving forward, meaning Pickett would have to take a backseat for the time being.
However, even though Wilson is meeting with Pittsburgh today, ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler claims that Pickett might get another chance, via NFL on ESPN.
“What is complicated is that coming out of the combine, I was getting a strong sense from sources that they were going to give Kenny Pickett another chance or at least were strongly flirting with that,” Fowler said.
At this point in time, it is unclear what the Steelers would offer Wilson and what the veteran quarterback is looking for in NFL free agency, as he could be content with a one-year deal on a potential contender or demand some security with a long-term deal.
Regardless of Wilson’s demands, it remains to be seen what the Steelers do and what direction they want to go in moving forward at the quarterback position.
