Despite an explosive offense that took the league by storm, the Miami Dolphins fell short of their goal of a Super Bowl during the 2023 NFL season.

The Dolphins got strong play from Tyreek Hill and Raheem Mostert who anchored the air and ground games, respectively, while players like De’Von Achane and Jaylen Waddle were excellent No. 2s.

Head coach Mike McDaniel also proved he’s one of the best and most creative play-callers in the league, finding ways to generate electric plays almost every week.

The team also got a strong year from Tua Tagovailoa, who manned the controls of the offense and was responsible for plenty of exciting plays.

However, the 2024 NFL Draft features several quality quarterback prospects and the Dolphins own the No. 21 overall pick meaning they have a chance to draft a potential successor for Tagovailoa.

Joel Klatt believes Miami should seriously consider taking Washington’s Michael Penix Jr. to replace Tagovailoa, via “The Joel Klatt Show.”

“A guy that I could see stepping into that offense with that coach with those weapons and looking like he did in college is Michael Penix,” Klatt said.

Klatt’s main argument is the number of concussions that Tagovailoa has already suffered throughout his career.

He also brings up how much of a competitive advantage it is for teams to have a starting quarterback on a rookie deal.

As of now, there are no indications that the Dolphins are trying to move off of Tagovailoa but they at least have to consider the long-term ramifications of his injury history and weigh if it makes sense to draft a backup plan like Penix.
