After going down with a season-ending Achilles injury during the NFL regular season, the future became uncertain for veteran quarterback Kirk Cousins of the Minnesota Vikings, as it was unclear whether he’d be able to bounce back from the injury and if he did, which teams would show interest in NFL free agency.
However, it seems as though Cousins will have some interested parties once he’s officially a free agent, but there might not be a ton of teams competing to sign him this offseason.
All signs have been pointing to the Vikings moving on from Cousins, with the team potentially drafting a quarterback in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft, but Minnesota might still be an option for the veteran quarterback.
According to Benjamin Allbright of KOA 850 AM & 94.1 FM, it will come down to the Atlanta Falcons and Vikings, even though the New England Patriots may show some interest in his services.
The Falcons will be one of the most aggressive teams in the league this offseason in their efforts to upgrade the quarterback position, as they have come to the conclusion that Desmond Ridder is not the answer under center.
That said, Atlanta will likely be a legitimate suitor for Cousins and might be willing to pay him the money to bring him in, even though he’s coming off the Achilles injury at 35 years old.
As for Minnesota, the Vikings could keep Cousins at a discount while still bringing in a rookie quarterback to set up the future of their franchise under center.
