Heading into the 2024 NFL Draft, the Los Angeles Chargers were thought to be one of the many teams that wanted to get their hands on one of the top receivers available, like Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers or Rome Odunze.
Even though it seemed like the Chargers would bring in one of those three wideouts, the team chose to go in a different direction and bring in the best offensive lineman in the draft, center Joe Alt, to give superstar quarterback Justin Herbert some protection.
Although the team didn’t bring in one of the top-tier wide receivers in the draft, they still drafted a wide receiver going with Ladd McConkey, in the second round, who could be a Week 1 starter in Los Angeles.
The Chargers also drafted Jerry Rice’s son, Brendan Rice, out of USC to help give the team some young depth at the position.
Even though the team has addressed the wide receiver position after letting Mike Williams walk in free agency and trading Keenan Allen to the Chicago Bears, the Chargers still appear interested in bringing in another veteran, with the team meeting with Marquez Valdes-Scantling on Monday, according to Ari Meirov of The 33rd Team.
After some successful seasons with the Green Bay Packers to start his career in the NFL, Valdes-Scantling spent the last two seasons with the Kansas City Chiefs, resulting in two rings for the veteran wide receiver.
However, he didn’t make the kind of impact that the Chiefs were expecting last season, finishing with 315 yards and a touchdown on 21 catches.
