Last season, Marquez Valdes-Scantling was a valuable addition to the Kansas City Chiefs receiving corps, as he gave superstar quarterback Patrick Mahomes another weapon downfield.
Even though Valdes-Scantling wasn’t a game-changer for the Chiefs last season, he did enough to make an impact and for the team to have high hopes he’d take it to another level this season after the team lost a few key players at wide receiver.
Unfortunately, things haven’t worked out as planned, with the 29-year-old having a rough season up to this point in the 2023 campaign, as he has only caught 17 passes for 273 yards and a touchdown.
Those kinds of numbers on a championship-caliber team will not only not get the job done but could put him in danger of getting cut at some point.
Apparently, Valdes-Scantling was not all that happy about getting asked about his struggles this season while in the locker room recently, via PJ Green of FOX4 News Kansas City.
At this point in time, it has become painfully clear for the Chiefs that some massive upgrades need to be made at the wide receiver position, with Kansas City’s offense simply not being the same dominant force it once was during the two recent championship runs with Mahomes under center.
That said, the Chiefs might get aggressive in the NFL offseason to upgrade the wide receiver position and give Mahomes some much-needed weapons downfield in order to get this offense back to firing on all cylinders and dominating the competition in the NFL.
