After missing the playoffs this season following an unexpected playoff appearance in 2022, the New York Giants have some difficult decisions to make this offseason.

Star running back Saquon Barkley, their only real threat on offense, is about to become a free agent, and so is Xavier McKinney, one of their starting safeties.

He posted a cryptic message on Twitter about wanting to be appreciated.

“I want to be appreciated in every way for what I do and bring to the table,” he wrote.

McKinney was second on the Giants in tackles this season while also posting 11 passes defended and three interceptions.

A second-round draft pick in 2020, his production has been gradually improving over the last couple of years after three seasons at the University of Alabama where he was named the defensive MVP of the 2018 Orange Bowl.

New York went just 6-11 this season and has issues on defense, and while they have studs among their front seven in defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence and linebacker Kayvon Thibodeaux, their secondary could use some help.

Losing Barkley, who had 962 rushing yards and 10 total touchdowns from scrimmage, would greatly cripple their offense and leave quarterback Daniel Jones with little help around him at the skill positions.

In 2022, the Giants surprised plenty of people by winning six of their first seven games, then making the playoffs, where they upset the 13-4 Minnesota Vikings in the Wild Card round.

In order to get back to that type of success, let alone build on it, they will have to retain McKinney and Barkley while finding a way to add some more talent on both sides of the football.
