There are expected to be a couple of intriguing veteran quarterbacks available on the market this offseason in the NFL, and one of them is the Minnesota Vikings’ Kirk Cousins.
Cousins is 35 years of age and is coming off a torn Achilles that prematurely ended his season, but multiple teams are still expected to go after him.
While it is possible he remains in Minnesota, Tom Pelissero told Jim Rome that perhaps the Atlanta Falcons or Denver Broncos would be interested.
“I do believe if you look around at an Atlanta, at maybe a Denver, though, they got to figure out some things with Russell Wilson,” Pelissero said.
The Falcons have a new head coach in Raheem Morris, a stud running back in Bijan Robinson, who had a solid rookie year, and a solid young wide receiver in Drake London, but they have a big hole at the QB position.
The NFC South is arguably the weakest division in the NFL, and maybe adding Cousins would give them a legitimate chance at winning the division and making the playoffs for the first time since the 2017 campaign.
Denver is expected by plenty of people to pull the plug on the Russell Wilson experiment and release him this offseason after missing the playoffs in two seasons with him.
Cousins threw for 2,331 yards and 18 touchdowns in his eight games in 2023, and he had been named to the Pro Bowl in three of his previous four seasons.
Coming back from a torn Achilles to play at a high level with the amount of wear and tear he has will be a tall task, but if he does, he could give a team a chance at contention this fall.
