As was the case a year ago, the New York Jets are hoping that future Hall-of-Fame quarterback Aaron Rodgers will be spry enough to carry them to the top of the AFC.

Rodgers is coming off a torn Achilles tendon he sustained on their first offensive series of last season, and having adequate depth behind him will be one key to a successful season.

Last season, it was Zach Wilson, the No. 2 pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, who was slated to be Rodgers’ backup and replaced him after his season-ending injury.

Wilson is now with the Denver Broncos and the Jets’ QB2 is veteran Tyrod Taylor, and they recently made another move by releasing Byron “Peewee” Jarrett, who went undrafted in last month’s NFL Draft.

Jarrett commented on the move on Twitter, and he came from a place of gratitude.

Jarrett, a native of Iowa, started to attract attention by putting up big numbers at Herbert Hoover High School, but he didn’t receive any offers from any NCAA schools.

He ended up starting his college career at Ellsworth Community College, but an injury limited him to seven games in 2018, and he ended up having two procedures on his shoulder during the offseason.

He missed all of the 2019 season, and he also missed out on the 2020 season because of the COVID-19 pandemic after transferring to Iowa Central Community College.

After two seasons at Iowa Central, Jarrett transferred to the University of West Florida, a Division II school, finally giving him a chance to play NCAA football.

It remains to be seen if or when another NFL team will give him a chance to take his dream to the next level this coming season.
