The 2023 NFL season was a bad one for the Cincinnati Bengals because not only did they miss the playoffs, but they also lost Joe Burrow to a season-ending wrist injury.
Burrow hurt his wrist in the Week 11 loss to the Baltimore Ravens and he was later declared out for the remainder of the regular season when it was announced he would undergo surgery.
Burrow’s been plagued by injuries throughout his young NFL career and it’s a shame because he’s one of the best quarterbacks in the league when he’s healthy.
At his best, Burrow has the upside to be a Super Bowl MVP but keeping him upright and away from contact has been a challenge.
Fortunately, Burrow doesn’t appear to have suffered any setbacks during his rehab and is fully expected to be ready for the start of the 2024 NFL season.
As for when he’ll be cleared for full contact, Burrow is aiming for May, per Ben Baby of ESPN via Jake Liscow.
“I think middle of May is when I am expecting to kind of be cleared for full contact and everything,” Burrow told ESPN.
May would be right around the time offseason training activities for teams begin, and it seems like a realistic goal for the Bengals star.
Cincinnati’s been patient with Burrow as he takes his time recovering, and there’s no reason to rush this early into the offseason.
His health over the next couple of months will be worth monitoring, but all signs point to him hitting his target.
