The Los Angeles Chargers hit their lowest point of the 2023 NFL season when they were embarrassed by the Las Vegas Raiders on Thursday Night Football.
The Chargers were decimated by injuries and shorthanded, but that had little to do with the lack of effort or passion the players showed on the field.
Without Justin Herbert and Keenan Allen, Los Angeles fell behind big early and seemed to give up almost immediately.
The poor performance finally led team owner Dean Spanos to clean house and fire head coach Brandon Staley as well as general manager Tom Telesco.
The moves were predictable after the blowout loss and Los Angeles goes into the offseason with several key decisions to make.
The biggest one the organization will need to figure out is who their next head coach be and Julian Edelman gave his thoughts on who should be coaching the team and Herbert via The Herd.
To no surprise, Edelman named Bill Belichick as the only defensive-minded head coach to pair with Herbert.
The former wide receiver explains that Belichick was able to teach Tom Brady defense which in turn helped him learn how to be a better quarterback.
Edelman also added that Herbert needs a leader who can help him learn how to win big games in the NFL, bringing up John Harbaugh’s name as another potential option.
Although Belichick remains the head coach of the New England Patriots, reports keep popping up that he’ll be let go following the end of the season and he could very well be an enticing target for the Chargers if he does indeed become available.
