The Kansas City Chiefs may have won Super Bowl LVIII, but there were some clear holes that needed to be filled this past offseason.
The most notable area of need was at wide receiver as the Chiefs rotated through several options like Marquez Valdes-Scantling and Kadarius Toney to give Patrick Mahomes some weapons, though both veterans struggled.
Had it not been for Rashee Rice’s breakout and the defense, Kansas City might not be celebrating their second Super Bowl ring in as many years this offseason.
Understanding the wide receiver room needed a makeover, the Chiefs got aggressive in the 2024 NFL Draft and traded up with the Buffalo Bills to get No. 28 and take Texas speedster Xavier Worthy.
Worthy broke the record for a 40-yard time at the NFL Draft Combine with a 4.21 and should immediately contribute for Kansas City in 2024
During offseason workouts, Worthy was even seen catching punts via PJ Green of FOX.
“#Chiefs WR Xavier Worthy catching punts today” Green reported.
The rookie wideout makes sense as a punt returner because of his blazing speed and ability to make people miss in the open field.
Worthy has the potential be one of the best punt returners in the league which would in turn create more scoring opportunities for the Chiefs.
Although head coach Andy Reid hasn’t announced what his plan for Worthy is yet, he would be wise to see what he can do returning punts.
Worthy’s speed is his greatest asset, so getting the football in his hands as much as possible should be a priority.
