After suffering through their worst season in seemingly a million years, the New England Patriots seem poised to take a possible franchise quarterback with the No. 3 pick in April’s draft.

They cut ties with legendary long-time head coach Bill Belichick, and it looks like they’re truly starting a new era about four years after legendary quarterback Tom Brady left them to join the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

On Friday, Tom Pelissero reported that the Patriots re-signed Nathan Rourke, a QB who was a star in the Canadian Football League (CFL).

Rourke is originally from Victoria, B.C., and he started his college football career at Fort Scott Community College in Kansas before transferring to Ohio University for his sophomore year.

In three years at Ohio, he threw for 7,457 yards and 60 touchdowns, and in 2020, he was the No. 15 pick in the CFL draft by the BC Lions.

In 2022, he had 3,349 passing yards and 25 passing touchdowns while completing 78.7 percent of his pass attempts, which earned him the CFL’s Most Outstanding Canadian award.

Rourke then moved on to the NFL, first with the Jacksonville Jaguars, whom he didn’t play a single game for, and he caught on with New England in December.

New England went back and forth between Mac Jones and Bailey Zappe under center in 2023, and neither of them was exactly impressive, which sent the team plunging to a 4-13 record.

They could have the opportunity to take either Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels at No. 3 in the draft, but there is always the possibility they trade down instead.
