Most of the NFL’s viable free agents are off the board at this point of the offseason, but there are still a few men available who could help a team at least a little bit.
Randy Gregory is still out there waiting to be signed by a team, and the San Francisco 49ers, who acquired him from the Denver Broncos in October, don’t seem to have interest in keeping him around.
But one of the 49ers’ NFC West competitors, the Seattle Seahawks, has some interest in him, according to Josina Anderson.
Gregory, who has played defensive end for most of his career, isn’t a prolific pass rusher, but he can contribute in a supplementary role.
In 2023, he switched to playing linebacker, and he had 3.5 sacks, 10 quarterback hits, and six tackles for loss while appearing in 16 games.
He spent his first seven years in the NFL with the Dallas Cowboys, although he didn’t play at all in 2017 and 2019 due to violating the league’s substance abuse policy.
The Seahawks surprisingly made the playoffs in 2022 after trading away future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson, but they couldn’t duplicate that feat last season.
Defense was a main culprit for them, and they could use some pass-rushing help up front.
Gregory is 31 years of age, and he cannot be expected to be a full-time starter since he has never really been one, but he could provide some depth and veteran experience.
Seattle ranked 25th in points allowed and 30th in total yards allowed last season.
