The new era of Washington Commanders football is officially underway as the team remade the roster during the offseason and the 2024 NFL Draft.
After hiring new general manager Adam Peters and head coach Dan Quinn, Washington went right to work bringing in key veteran free agents to elevate the roster.
However, the biggest moves came during the draft as the Commanders owned the No. 2 overall pick and went with LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels.
Peters never tipped his hand as to which quarterback Washington would take, but the noise leading up to the draft seemed to suggest Daniels was their preferred option.
There was no surprise when Daniels heard his name called when the Commanders were on the clock and he’ll now be tasked with leading the organization’s rebuild.
Analysts like Brian Baldinger were impressed with Washington’s draft and believe that they’ll get back to being competitive sooner rather than later, via NFL Total Access.
“I think we can see a quick rise in Washington with his ability,” Baldinger said.
Daniels has often been compared to Lamar Jackson because of his ability to hit throws downfield and keep the football and run.
Those two traits should make him a difficult cover in the NFL, but he’ll also be working with offensive coordinator Kliff Kingsbury, who’s done wonders for quarterbacks like Patrick Mahomes and Kyler Murray.
While it remains to be seen whether or not Daniels can be as good as Mahomes and Murray, there’s no doubt that he represents legitimate hope and optimism that the Commanders are back on their way up.
