The race for the NFL’s regular-season MVP award has had some twists and turns this year.
Earlier in the fall, it was thought that the clear frontrunners were Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, who won it last season, and the Philadelphia Eagles’ Jalen Hurts, 2022’s MVP runner-up.
Now the frontrunners are Dak Prescott of the Dallas Cowboys and Brock Purdy of the San Francisco 49ers.
In the minds of many, Prescott is the leader, and on FS1’s “Speak,” Joy Taylor said Prescott has checked off most of the items on her list of things he needed to do to become the MVP favorite in a short amount of time.
As recently as Week 5, the Cowboys lost to the 49ers, 42-10, as Prescott threw three interceptions in one of his worst performances ever, and the vultures were circling overhead for both Prescott and his team.
But since then, they have won seven of eight games and five in a row, capped off by Sunday’s convincing 33-13 win over the Eagles, the defending NFC champions.
Prescott is leading the league with 28 touchdown passes, and his team is now in first place in the NFC East with a 10-3 record and has a real shot at getting the conference’s first seed.
He is at the controls of an offense that now leads the league in points, first downs, and fewest turnovers.
Prescott may be named the MVP, but for him to truly prove he’s the best QB around and silence his critics, he will need to lead Dallas to a Super Bowl championship.
