In Week 5, the Dallas Cowboys got beaten up by the San Francisco 49ers, 42-10, dropping their record to 3-2, and the alarm bells were sounding.

Some felt perhaps they were imposters, and they had some issues on both sides of the football.

But since then, they have won seven of eight games and five in a row, and their lone loss was in Week 9 on the road to the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles.

On Sunday, the Cowboys delivered a powerful statement by making amends for that Week 9 loss with a 33-13 victory over the Birds, boosting their record to 10-3 and giving them first place in the NFC East.

On FS1’s “First Things First,” Nick Wright said the loss to the Niners was the turning point for Dallas and that since then, Dallas has been the best team in the NFL.

The Cowboys have the top scoring offense in the league, and Sunday marked the fifth straight game and the sixth time in their last seven contests they have scored at least 33 points.

Their defense has also been dynamic — they rank fourth in points allowed and third in total yards given up, and they have surrendered 20 or fewer points six times in their last eight games.

Quarterback Dak Prescott is now arguably the frontrunner to win the regular-season MVP award, and he’s leading everyone in touchdown passes this season with 28.

Of course, for such a proud franchise, anything but winning the Super Bowl will be considered a failure, and thus all the success they’ve had in recent weeks is nothing more than a stepping stone toward perhaps claiming the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
