Before heading into the NFL playoffs last season, Dallas Cowboys star quarterback Dak Prescott was getting a lot of buzz as a legitimate candidate to be named NFL MVP because of his consistent, solid play.

Unfortunately, toward the end of the regular season, Lamar Jackson of the Baltimore Ravens overtook Prescott and became the favorite to win his second regular-season award.

Despite losing out on the award, the Cowboys made it clear that they wanted to re-sign him to a lucrative long-term contract over the summer, which obviously bodes well for his immediate future in Dallas.

Even though the Cowboys suffered an epic playoff collapse on their home field, longtime owner Jerry Jones has remained true to his word and still intends to re-sign the star quarterback.

Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report believes Prescott is playing out his contract situation perfectly, as he said on “Speak” on FS1.

“If you are Dak Prescott, you are handling this perfectly because the worst-case scenario is you play it out, you have another Pro Bowl type of season, and suddenly you become the highest-paid quarterback in the league or one of them,” Schultz said.

Even though Schultz believes Prescott is playing things out with the Cowboys, it’s not beyond the realm of possibility that the star quarterback will have a bad season next year and show signs of regressing.

This might be an end to the Prescott era in Dallas after playing the 2024 NFL season if he doesn’t prove his worth during the regular season.
