Change is in the air for the Buffalo Bills, and it isn’t quite the type of change that gets people hopeful or excited.
They traded away four-time Pro Bowl wide receiver Stefon Diggs just weeks ago, and they also lost WR2 Gabriel Davis in free agency, which has cast plenty of uncertainty on the upcoming season.
It will take an all-hands-on-deck approach for the Bills’ offense to remain productive enough to get the team back to the playoffs.
Khalil Shakir is one wideout who needs to step up this coming season, and he says that new offensive coordinator Joe Brady is making sure “everybody eats,” per Around The NFL.
No one man currently on Buffalo’s roster can replace Diggs, who has posted over 100 catches and 1,100 receiving yards in each of the last five years.
But perhaps Shakir can develop into a reliable target for star quarterback Josh Allen.
He had just 10 catches for 161 yards as a rookie in 2022, but last season, he improved those numbers to 39 and 611, respectively, while starting in 10 of his 17 games.
Despite a mediocre start to the 2023 campaign, the Bills ended the regular season with a five-game winning streak and got past the Miami Dolphins in Week 18 to finish first in the AFC East.
In the playoffs, they defeated the Pittsburgh Steelers, 31-17, before narrowly falling to the Kansas City Chiefs in heartbreaking fashion in the divisional round.
Still, plenty of people are picking Buffalo to make the playoffs once again this winter, so perhaps experts have more faith in the team’s wide receiver room than some fans do.
