Brooks Koepka secured a major victory at the LIV Golf Jeddah event on Sunday, adding a second LIV individual title to his successful year. In addition to defending his LIV title, Koepka also won the PGA Championship, earning him his fifth major title.

Another jab at teammate Matthew Wolff

Prior to his Jeddah victory, Koepka made headlines with his comments about his Smash GC teammates. When asked about the team, Koepka praised his brother and Jason Kokrak but notably left out any mention of Matthew Wolff.

"There's only three of us on our team," Koepka said. "I mean, obviously, my brother, I’m pretty tight with him, and then—I’ve enjoyed being around Jay for the last—I’ve been pretty close with Jay for maybe the last three years. I’ve enjoyed being around him. He’s a good player, super talented. It’s been fun to be around him, and he’s played pretty solid this year. Yeah, I can’t say anything bad about him."

Koepka's omission of Wolff comes after he previously criticized his teammate's attitude and work ethic in an interview with Sports Illustrated. Wolff, a rising star who turned pro in 2019, finished second in the 2000 U.S. Open and won the 3M Championship. However, he openly discussed mental health issues and saw LIV Golf as a fresh start.

Wolff's future with LIV Golf uncertain

Despite his talent, Wolff finished 27th in the LIV Golf individual season standings, leaving his future with the league in question. Unless he has a contract, he is not guaranteed a place for next year. Koepka, on the other hand, will likely be looking for new players to join his team, as his brother Chase did not place in the top 44 players and will need to earn his way back through a Promotions event in December.

A successful year for Brooks Koepka

Koepka's win in Jeddah marks the end of the LIV individual season, with the Team Championship set to take place in Miami. With his title defense and PGA Championship win, Koepka has undoubtedly had a standout year in professional golf.
