After an epic collapse in the first round of the NFL playoffs against the upstart Green Bay Packers, the Dallas Cowboys were thought to make some drastic changes during the offseason, with head coach Mike McCarthy and star quarterback Dak Prescott potentially losing their jobs.
However, the complete opposite happened with longtime team owner Jerry Jones giving McCarthy a pass and promising he’d return for the 2024 NFL season while also promising to sign Prescott to a lucrative long-term deal that would reset the quarterback market.
Obviously, this is probably not what Cowboys fans wanted to hear, as McCarthy and Prescott have not proven they can get it done during the NFL playoffs.
The Cowboys had plenty of opportunities to make some changes over the course of this offseason, especially in NFL free agency, but chose not to make any significant changes, at least for the time being.
Jones recently claimed that he feels as good as he ever has during an offseason in terms of where his team is, which prompted former Cowboys star wide receiver Dez Bryant to call him out for the comments.
Even though Bryant supposedly has a good relationship with Jones despite what seemed like an ugly divorce from the team late in his playing career, he seems to have had no problem calling out the Cowboys owner for what he perceived to be lies told to the media.
There’s no telling whether Jones is content or not moving forward, but he knows the team’s championship window is now, and if they don’t make moves to upgrade, other teams will, which will hurt Dallas’ chances of competing for a title moving forward.
