Eagles Rookie Explains Why He Tried To Intercept A Spike

One of the Philadelphia Eagles rookies tried something in Monday Night Football that quickly became an internet spectacle.

Jalen Carter, one of the highest-anticipated defensive players from the draft, dove through the Kansas City Chiefs offensive line, trying to intercept Patrick Mahomes’ spiked ball.

It didn’t work, which caused many to wonder how he came up with this idea.

In a postgame interview with reporter Eliot Shorr Parks shared via Dov Kleiman, Carter said, “I saw it on the internet. Some high school kid tried it and he actually caught the ball.”

Carter’s explanation has quickly caught on, and fans across the country now have a better understanding of this viral play.

Whether he will try this play again in the future remains to be seen.

It is a never-before-seen strategy in the NFL, one that appears to be a low-percentage play moving forward.

Even though this play was unsuccessful for Carter and the Eagles, they were ultimately able to get the job done in this game.

Beating Mahomes and the Chiefs is not a small task, especially since the Chiefs beat them in last year’s Super Bowl.

With this win, the Eagles proved to the rest of the league that they are ready to compete for another NFC title, hoping to get revenge for what they were unable to accomplish last season.

Can they keep up their strong play on both sides of the ball?

With a difficult remaining schedule, fans will soon see if this team’s dominance is sustainable.
