After the 2022 NFL season, veteran kicker Robbie Gould decided to call it a career after a long and successful stint in the league, in which he played for the Chicago Bears, New York Giants, and San Francisco 49ers.
Even though Gould was never able to win a title during his time as a kicker in the NFL, he still seems content with what he was able to accomplish from 2005 to 2022.
With the 49ers now back in the Super Bowl, Gould is probably a little disappointed he walked away from the game, as he played in two Super Bowls and wasn’t able to come away with a Vince Lombardi Trophy.
During a recent appearance on “Up & Adams” with Kay Adams, Gould admitted that he can still kick some long field goals, as he wouldn’t go as far as to say he could kick a 60-yarder, but was good for 58.
Unlike most positions on a football team, the kicker can usually stand the test of time if that kicker is consistent, which Gould definitely was for the three teams he played on over the course of his career.
As for kicking long field goals, Gould’s longest field goal made was a 58-yarder while with the Bears, so saying he can do that a year after retiring is probably true, or at least he’s confident that he can pull it off.
As for the 49ers, Brock Purdy and company are currently the favorites to come out on top against the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday in Las Vegas.
