Miami Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has made great strides since he was the No. 5 pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, and he is now almost universally considered a star.

However, some still have their doubts about him for various reasons.

But T.J. Houshmandzadeh said on Fox Sports 1’s “Speak” that he believes Tagovailoa can lead Miami to a Super Bowl.

“I believe Tua can lead the Dolphins to a Super Bowl,” Houshmandzadeh said.

In his first two seasons, Tagovailoa’s numbers were poor, and some were ready to call him a bust while saying Miami should’ve perhaps drafted Justin Herbert, who went at No. 6 in 2020 and was great right away for the Los Angeles Chargers.

But the University of Alabama product broke out in 2022, and in 2023, he led the NFL in passing yards with 4,624.

Some may still be inclined to dismiss his statistical prowess because he plays with perhaps the league’s best wide receiver in Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, but not that many QBs would’ve been able to lead the NFL in passing yards in the exact same situation.

One concern with Tagovailoa is his health — he suffered multiple concussions in 2022 that forced him to miss four games, but last season, he was available for all 17 contests.

It seems that the Dolphins’ problem these days isn’t Tagovailoa, but their defense, which was pretty porous last season.

They lost defensive end Christian Wilkins, linebacker Jerome Baker and four-time Pro Bowl cornerback Xavien Howard in free agency, and their free agent additions this offseason haven’t been very impressive, other than perhaps former Buffalo Bills safety Jordan Poyer.
