With the NFL Scouting Combine underway, teams are getting an opportunity to take a close and personal look at this year’s draft prospects.
This year’s draft is thought to be especially deep at the quarterback position, and it could yield as many as three or four eventual Pro Bowl-caliber signal-callers.
Jayden Daniels is considered one of the top two or three QB prospects, and per Jeff Howe, he has impressed teams during interviews this week.
With LSU during the 2023 season, Daniels threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while having just four interceptions, which earned him the SEC Offensive Player of the Year award and the Heisman Trophy.
He also added 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground, and in the minds of many, that dual-threat ability is what puts him ahead of the University of North Carolina’s Drake Maye on the draft board.
At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Daniels is a pretty good physical specimen, and his ability to extend plays and move the chains with his legs should translate pretty well at the next level.
If he goes to the Washington Commanders at No. 2, as plenty are expecting, he will give Josh Harris and his new ownership group a potential franchise quarterback for the next 10-15 years.
Of course, there is always the chance of a team trading up or down in the draft, as well as the possibility that Caleb Williams of the USC isn’t chosen with the No. 1 pick, which may mean Daniels would be the first player selected in April.
