There was plenty of hype coming into this season surrounding the Detroit Lions, and many felt they could have a great season and possibly even become a dark-horse Super Bowl contender.
They met the hype by winning eight of their first 10 games, but they have now lost two of their last three games, and those losses came to seemingly inferior teams in the Green Bay Packers and Chicago Bears.
The Lions are now in need of a boost ahead of their last four regular-season games, and Steve Wyche says if they get through those games, they could possibly hang with anyone in the NFC.
On Sunday, Detroit will take on Russell Wilson and the Denver Broncos, a team that has won six of its last seven games and has seemingly finally figured things out after a very rough 2022 campaign.
As Wyche pointed out, Detroit’s defense has been a big bone of contention lately — they have given up at least 28 points in five of their last seven games, and they rank just 25th in points allowed.
After playing Denver, the Lions will face the Minnesota Vikings, who are fighting for a playoff spot, twice, and the Dallas Cowboys once before the schedule wraps up.
These four remaining games will tell the world a lot about what this team is really made of and what it could accomplish come playoff time.
Detroit currently has a 9-4 record, and while it has a seemingly comfortable two-game lead over the Vikings, that lead could easily vanish if they aren’t careful.
