Kirk Cousins has become a fan favorite for the Minnesota Vikings.
A season-ending injury put an early end to his MVP-caliber campaign, and some thought it would also be the end of his time in the Twin Cities.
Nonetheless, as pointed out by Zac Stevens, the Vikings continue to be the odds-on favorite to get him in the offseason, followed by the Atlanta Falcons, New England Patriots, Las Vegas Raiders, Tennessee Titans, Washington Commanders, Denver Broncos, Pittsburgh Steelers, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and San Francisco 49ers.
Judging by the odds, the Falcons and Patriots could be the only realistic alternatives to the Vikings right now.
Cousins has been vocal about his desire to stay with the Vikings for the long run, but it’ll be easier said than done.
For starters, he’s not getting any younger.
On the other hand, he could demand a lot of money in what might be his last lucrative deal in the league, and that’s not in the Vikings’ best interest.
Minnesota still wants to keep Justin Jefferson for the long run, and committing a lot of money to their aging quarterback might stand in the way of that.
Perhaps Cousins would be willing to give his team a major discount or structure his deal in a way that he can stay there without hurting their cap space, but it remains to be seen.
