The Pittsburgh Steelers could be in the mix for a new quarterback next season.
Kenny Pickett has left a lot to be desired since he entered the league, up to the point where Mike Tomlin didn’t even turn back to him with the season on the line.
Mason Rudolph, on the other hand, will become a free agent, and it’s not like he’s done much to prove that he should be a starter anywhere else in the league.
With that in mind, Russell Wilson’s name has been mentioned multiple times as a potential stopgap for the Steelers.
Now, NBC Sports Bet reports that the Steelers are the odds-on favorite to land the former Super Bowl champion in the offseason.
Wilson’s two-year stint with the Denver Broncos has been utterly disappointing.
His relationship with HC Sean Payton doesn’t seem to be in a good place, and he’s even put his mansion up for sale.
The Broncos have until March 17 to cut him before his base salary for the upcoming campaign becomes fully guaranteed, and that looks like an easy call at this moment, mainly because of the fact that Payton doesn’t seem to be too high on him right now.
The Steelers have been held back by poor quarterback play since Ben Roethlisberger’s final couple of years, and even though Wilson has been far from his best lately, he’d still be a significant upgrade for the team.
Justin Fields is another potential candidate, so it’ll be interesting to see what Omar Khan does in the offseason.
