The New England Patriots are headed into unfamiliar territory, as the team will head into the NFL offseason without legendary head coach Bill Belichick at the helm for the first time in over two decades.
After parting ways with Belichick following another disappointing NFL season, the Patriots didn’t take long to make a decision on who would be the successor to the future Hall of Famer, as they chose to bring in former player Jerod Mayo.
With Mayo being a first-time head coach and likely needing some guidance along with some experienced leadership to help give his players some added motivation, it appears the team brought in one-time Super Bowl champion head coach Tony Dungy to talk to the team, according to Mike Reiss of ESPN.
“Former NFL head coach and current NBC “Football Night in America” analyst Tony Dungy visited Patriots practice on Thursday, addressing the team,” Reiss wrote.
Although the team was able to bring in a potential franchise quarterback, Drake Maye, out of the University of North Carolina with the No. 3 overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, New England will almost certainly go through some growing pains moving forward as the Patriots adjust to a new regime in the post-Belichick era.
Despite the drastic regime change, the Patriots are likely headed in the right direction, and only time will tell how long it will take for this iconic franchise to get back to its winning ways and if Maye proves to be the real deal under center.
