One of the most surprising teams in the NFL during the 2023 campaign was the Green Bay Packers, with the team expected to struggle after trading superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers to the New York Jets before the season began.
With Rodgers headed to the AFC, the Packers turned to Jordan Love to shoulder the load under center, with little confidence around the league about his potential to fill the shoes of the four-time NFL MVP.
During the first half of the regular season, it seemed as though Love was a bit rough around the edges and would need some time to develop into the kind of player that could lead this franchise in the post-Rodgers era.
Fortunately, the team was able to turn things around and have a stellar second half of the season, resulting in Green Bay clinching a playoff spot and a first-round matchup with the second-seeded Dallas Cowboys, which ended up being a win that was arguably the biggest upset of the postseason.
Even though the Packers were eventually eliminated, Green Bay is trending up, and head coach Matt LaFleur is already doing what he can to make Love that much better moving forward, bringing in Sean Mannion to work with him and the rest of the quarterbacks.
Apparently, LaFleur was able to pull a fast one and beat out the division-rival Chicago Bears for Mannion’s services, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.
Even though the Bears have an intriguing situation going on with the possibility of bringing in USC’s Caleb Williams, the Packers are definitely a team that is further along and much closer to contention in the NFC.
It’ll be interesting to see how things pan out for the Bears and Packers, as they could be two teams to watch in the conference moving forward.
