The NFL offseason will unofficially kick off when the scouting combine is held starting next Monday in Indianapolis.
It is a chance for teams to take a close look at the incoming rookie class by seeing them go through workouts and drills and asking them good questions during the interview process.
However, there will be a head coach who won’t attend, yet again: the Los Angeles Rams’ Sean McVay, per Dov Kleiman.
In 2022, after winning the Super Bowl championship to conclude the 2021 season, the Rams sunk into the ground, finishing 5-12 and missing the playoffs.
It looked like they were stuck in quicksand, but they rose from the ashes this season, winning seven of their last eight regular-season games and returning to the postseason, where they nearly knocked off the 12-5 Detroit Lions in the Wild Card round.
Los Angeles has an aging and possibly injury-prone quarterback in Matthew Stafford, but a number of young studs have led their resurrection.
Rookie wide receiver Puka Nacua took the NFL by storm with 1,486 yards, while rookie nose tackle Kobie Turner had a strong year, as did second-year running back Kyren Williams, who made the Pro Bowl.
While wide receiver Cooper Kupp and star defensive tackle Aaron Donald are still around, the Rams have some holes to fill, especially in their secondary, and drafting well will be the key to how well they will do in the next few years.
They will have five picks in the first five rounds of April’s draft, including the No. 19 overall pick.
