After narrowly missing out on the 2023 NFL Playoffs, the Seattle Seahawks knew they needed to make some sort of change to keep up with the rest of the NFL.
The Seahawks wound up parting ways with legendary head coach Pete Carroll and replaced him with former Baltimore Ravens defensive coordinator Mike Macdonald.
Macdonald quickly made a name for himself in Baltimore as he formed one of the best defensive units in the league during the 2023 NFL season.
In Seattle, the team has become well-known for their tough, physical style of play on both sides of the field and Macdonald has plenty of experience with that kind of play given how the Ravens like to play.
However, Macdonald said that the Seahawks will need to find their own identity via Tom Pelissero of NFL Network.
“However, this team needs to take on its own identity, just like any team, any year, and I’m the one to lead that charge. So it’ll be in our vision, and we’ll move forward,” Macdonald said.
While Macdonald will likely want a defense-first mindset for his new team, he sounds like he’s open to whatever comes the team’s way in the next few months.
With valuable young talent across the roster, Seattle can morph into almost any sort of team and Macdonald will be responsible for identifying the best path forward.
Macdonald will need to get creative in trying to scheme up ways to beat the head coaches in his division, namely Kyle Shanahan and Sean McVay who are two of the best offensive minds in the league.
It’ll be exciting to see what Macdonald can do as a first-time head coach with plenty of promise.
