After having the first Pro-Bowl season of his career with the Seattle Seahawks, veteran quarterback Geno Smith followed it up by getting another Pro-Bowl nod for his performance in the 2023 campaign at 33 years old.
Although Smith’s numbers significantly dropped from 2022 to 2023, and the Seahawks missed the NFL playoffs entirely, he still had a solid season and only won one fewer game than he did the previous season, with a trip to the postseason coming down to the wire.
That’s fairly impressive, considering the fact that the Seahawks play in the same division (NFC West) as the Los Angeles Rams and San Francisco 49ers, but still not good enough to get the job done in Seattle.
However, Mina Kimes of ESPN recently brought up something interesting about Smith while on “NFL Live,” saying that Smith had the best QBR last season on first downs, via NFL on ESPN.
“On first downs in the NFL, you know where he ranked for QBR? First,” Kimes said.
Although the Seahawks haven’t gotten much buzz during this NFL offseason after a disappointing end to the 2023 campaign, Seattle is still stacked with talent moving forward, as Smith has some of the best weapons in the league to throw to, which could bode well for the 2024 NFL season.
Along with bringing in an insurance policy for Smith at quarterback with Sam Howell, the Seahawks have an incredible trio of wide receivers, starting with DK Metcalf, Tyler Lockett, and Jaxon Smith-Njigba.
It doesn’t stop there, with running backs Kenneth Walker III and Zach Charbonnet coming out of the backfield, and tight end Noah Fant is another target in the passing game.
With these weapons at his disposal, Smith has an opportunity to continue being successful in Seattle while making the team a force to be reckoned with.
