The NFL continues to top charts for live sports viewership every season, an indication of the sticking power of this league.

While there have been some changes made in recent seasons, the NFL continues to have great ratings.

One of the aspects of this league that has been successful is their willingness to adapt to the latest technologies.

It might have taken more time than some fans expected, but it appears that the league is looking to make a massive change as it relates to tracking first downs.

As evidenced by a recent article from Pro Football Talk on Twitter, the NFL is slated to test this new tracking system during the preseason.

If this is successful, it could be implemented in the regular season and playoffs.

This could not only solve disputes about where a player was downed, but it should also help speed games along.

The MLB has made a lot of changes over the past few years to the timing of their games, and much to the excitement of the league offices, viewership seems to be at an all-time high.

Hopefully, this will be a well-received change in the preseason.

If not, the NFL could be forced to stick to their antiquated way of tracking first downs, using massive 10-yard chains and the naked eye to try and make the best possible judgment call.

With the emergence of sports gambling over the past several years, having the game be as fair as possible is paramount, and this technology could help the NFL in many ways.
