The Dallas Cowboys know drama, especially in recent years, as they have continually failed to reach the lofty expectations people have placed on them.

They have won 12 games in each of the last three regular seasons, but every year, they have gone home early in the playoffs.

Quarterback Dak Prescott is considered one of the best in the NFL at his position, but he’s heading into the final year of his contract, and some are wondering if 2024 will be his last year with the team.

On FS1’s “First Things First,” Nick Wright said that Prescott’s contract situation will be the story of the Cowboys’ 2024 season.

Dallas reportedly hasn’t come close to terms with Prescott on an extension, and thus there is a real chance he will become a free agent next March.

Wright mentioned some other high-level QBs who had impending free agency hanging over their heads for an entire season, such as the Baltimore Ravens’ Lamar Jackson, and how it could affect their play.

For a moment late last season, Prescott was a leading MVP candidate, and he ended up leading everyone with 36 touchdown passes.

But he has a history of continually underperforming in the playoffs, and one has to wonder if that is giving owner Jerry Jones a bit of trepidation as far as giving him a lucrative extension.

The Cowboys are one of the league’s most talented teams, but they haven’t won the Super Bowl championship or even gotten to the NFC Championship Game since 1995.

If Prescott doesn’t deliver the goods this coming season, perhaps some of their fans will start to sour on him as the team’s franchise signal-caller.
