When legendary quarterback Tom Brady left the New England Patriots after the 2019 season, many were eager to see how head coach Bill Belichick would do without his right-hand man.
So far, the results have been poor — he has had one winning season, but this year, the Patriots are 3-10 and have been an embarrassment.
Reportedly, the franchise has decided to move on from him once the season ends, and thus there is lots of speculation about which team he will coach next.
On his podcast “What’s Wright? with Nick Wright,” Nick Wright says the “most fun option” would be the Tampa Bay Buccaneers because of the revenge factor.
Brady, of course, joined the Buccaneers for the 2020 season and instantly won his seventh Super Bowl championship, putting to rest any lingering notions that he was so successful because of Belichick.
Without Brady, Belichick has struggled — in 10 seasons before and after Brady’s tenure in New England, the coach has had just two winning seasons.
It is something his detractors readily point to, as opposed to someone such as former Miami Dolphins head coach Don Shula, who made the Super Bowl with three different starting signal-callers.
There was reportedly a rift between Brady and Belichick, who were once thought to be joined at the hip, that led to the former’s departure.
The Buccaneers now have Baker Mayfield under center, and he has apparently proven he is capable of being a full-time starter in the NFL.
They also have two capable wide receivers in Chris Godwin and Mike Evans, and perhaps Belichick’s defensive acumen could help them go from mediocrity to mastery once again.
