The Washington Commanders have been laughingstocks for the last 30 years, but change is in the air, and it started when the controversial Daniel Snyder sold them to a group headed by billionaire investor Josh Harris several months ago.
Harris has vowed to change the culture of the franchise, and will have a great opportunity to set the right tone with the No. 2 pick in Thursday’s NFL Draft.
Ron Rivera, who was fired as the Commanders’ head coach in January, says Jayden Daniels, the supremely talented quarterback from Louisiana State University, can “change the culture” of the team, per “All Facts No Brakes.”
Rivera also added that with Kliff Kingsbury as new head coach Dan Quinn’s offensive coordinator, Washington will need a mobile QB who can extend plays with his legs, a la Kyler Murray, who was Kingsbury’s signal-caller when Kingsbury was the Arizona Cardinals’ head coach.
There is a growing consensus that after Caleb Williams, who is widely expected to be chosen with the No. 1 pick by the Chicago Bears, Daniels is the best quarterback prospect and best overall prospect this year.
While he has a lean frame that makes some concerned that he cannot absorb hits that well, he’s a legitimate dual-threat QB who has outstanding accuracy.
At LSU last season, he threw for 3,812 yards and 40 touchdowns while adding 1,134 yards and 10 touchdowns on the ground, which earned him the Heisman Trophy.
The Commanders appear to be on the precipice of turning around decades of ineptitude while setting themselves up for many years of success moving forward.
