After bringing in veteran quarterback Derek Carr last year, the New Orleans Saints had high expectations heading into the 2023 NFL season, as the team was hoping to take advantage of a weak NFC South division in order to make the NFL playoffs.
Carr had a decent first season with the Saints after spending his entire professional career in the NFL with the Las Vegas Raiders, which spanned over nine years after he was drafted out of Fresno State in the second round of the 2014 NFL Draft.
With Carr proving his worth in his first season in New Orleans, the team will presumably keep him as the starter heading into the 2024 NFL season, with Jake Haener currently the second quarterback on the depth chart, followed by rookie Spencer Rattler and versatile veteran Taysom Hill.
As of right now, it seems as though the depth chart is set at the quarterback position moving forward, especially after the team parted ways with Kellen Mond this week, according to Field Yates of ESPN.
Obviously, the Saints waiving Mond and offensive lineman Tommy Kraemer are not game-changing moves; New Orleans is preparing for their upcoming training camp, where the team will get the roster down to the mandatory 53 players ahead of Week 1 of the 2024 NFL season.
As long as Carr can stay healthy and productive, the Saints will have a shot at making the playoffs next season while battling it out with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Atlanta Falcons, and Carolina Panthers in the NFC South division.
