After coming just short of making it back into the NFL playoffs this past season, the Seattle Seahawks headed into the offseason with no expectations of making any major moves, as the team was considered to be close to being a force to be reckoned within the NFC.
However, the Seahawks shocked a lot of people shortly after the season ended for Seattle, with longtime head coach Pete Carroll agreeing to step down and assume a different role with the organization, which is a move that no one saw coming.
With Carroll done coaching the Seahawks, the first order of business for Seattle was finding his successor, with no shortage of intriguing candidates on the open market.
Ultimately, the team made another surprising move by not going after the big-name coaches available and hiring Mike Macdonald.
With Macdonald in the fold, the Seahawks turned their attention to the quarterback position and veteran Geno Smith, who will be on the roster for next season, according to Jordan Schultz of Bleacher Report.
During the 2022 campaign, Smith was seemingly able to turn back the clock and put on a show at the quarterback position for Seattle, earning his first Pro Bowl nod and proving to everyone that he can still play the game at a high level.
Unfortunately, Smith came back down to earth in 2023, throwing for 10 fewer touchdowns and failing to get the Seahawks back into the NFL postseason.
However, the team seems confident in his ability and will presumably keep him as their starter moving forward.
