Monday wasn’t the best of days for the New York Giants as the free-agent season opened up in the NFL.
While they acquired pass rusher Brian Burns at a relatively low price, they lost star running back Saquon Barkley, which stung even more since he’s going to the division-rival Philadelphia Eagles.
The Giants are also losing starting safety Xavier McKinney, who agreed to a four-year contract worth $68 million with the Green Bay Packers.
While on “Up & Adams,” McKinney said he feels he can reach a much higher level of production than what he showed in New York.
“I haven’t even scratched the surface of who I am as a player,” McKinney said.
As he pointed out, he has played just two full seasons since entering the NFL in 2020 due to injuries, but in 2023, he had his best year yet.
He was second on the Giants in combined and solo tackles, and he had 11 passes defended while intercepting three passes and recovering two fumbles.
While his former team will have to find a way to bounce back from a season in which it won just six games, his new team is quickly on the rise and could be on its way to becoming a powerhouse.
The Packers did better than many anticipated in 2023 by winning nine games and making the playoffs, where they surprised the Dallas Cowboys in the Wild Card round and were competitive in their Divisional round loss to the San Francisco 49ers.
McKinney will fortify their secondary while giving starting quarterback Jordan Love, who blossomed in November, December, and January, some more support moving forward.
