Bluetti Handsfree 1 Review

The Bluetti Handsfree 1 is a great way to keep all your devices charged in the field, and is perfect for professional photographers or drone pilots.

My first thought when unboxing the backpack was: isn’t this going to be too heavy to carry around? Thankfully, modern LiFePO4 battery technology is extremely energy dense, meaning the entire backpack only weighs around 5kg. The load-bearing straps distribute this weight evenly across your lower back and shoulders – the stomach strap in particular makes this backpack feel much lighter than you might expect.

In terms of tech the Bluetti has you covered as well – it has outputs in all the most useful formats: USB-C for modern phones, USB-A for legacy devices, and even an AC output with a 300W inverter. You can charge your drones, your cameras, your phones, we even managed to get an HF radio working. This got me thinking – the Handsfree 1 would make a great survivalist bag. If you need to get out of Dodge in an emergency you could have it pre-packed with radios, first aid, and non-perishable food.

Inside the backpack there’s plenty of room for drones, batteries, and anything else you might need. 42 litres is a large amount of storage, and thankfully this is held more in the height direction rather than being extremely deep and therefore hard on your back. Despite this, there’s room enough at the bottom of the backpack for you to attach a bedroll if needed.

The battery itself is removable from the backpack, meaning when you get to camp you can set it up in a useful place. If you’re doing a lot of field work then you could even hotswap the battery units and always keep one on charge, provided you purchase an extra battery unit.

In short, the Bluetti Handsfree 1 is the perfect solution for a lot of different use cases: professional photographers, drone pilots, survivalists, possibly even for hikers, though the form factor might be a bit much for full time hiking.
