Maple Bourbon Wings

Chicken wings are the ultimate grillin snack. The crispy skin and tender, fall off the bone meat. With 3 simple ingredients, this dry rub maple bourbon wings recipe is a great way to add some flavor at your next game day event.

Maple Bourbon Wings

Step 1: Simple prep work.

I always go with fresh detached chicken wing pieces which helps with time management. To start, coat the raw wing pieces in olive oil and season them with Dad’s Maple Bourbon rub. With sweet and savory notes, this rub will elevate your everyday wings. Make sure to get an even coat throughout.

Dad’s Seasonings

Must have grillin seasonings!

Step 2: How to grill the perfect maple bourbon wings.

Heat up the grill to 375 degrees and set it for indirect heat. Place the seasoned wings directly on the grates and let them cook for 45-60 minutes or until the internal temperature reaches 180 degrees. Flip the wings half way through to ensure an even cook throughout.

Take the grilled dry rub wings off the grill and let them rest by covering them with a sheet of foil. Serve and enjoy!

Recipe Tips

  • Grill on indirect heat to avoid the skin from burning
  • Grill at a higher temperature to get the skin crispy

Step 3 (optional): Make a homemade maple bourbon sauce.

If you prefer saucy wings, make this homemade maple bourbon sauce to compliment the flavor of the wings.

In a saucepan, add maple syrup, bourbon of choice, brown sugar, Dad’s Maple Bourbon Rub, butter and dijon mustard for a little bit of tanginess. Whisk the ingredients together and simmer over low heat until the sauce thickens.

Toss the grilled maple bourbon wings in the homemade sauce, serve and enjoy!

Recipe Tip

  • Adjust the flavor profiles of the glaze to your liking. I prefer my glaze on the sweeter size, therefore I add a little more brown sugar. For more savory notes, use more bourbon and mustard. Taste as you mix.
  • The alcohol will burn off during the cooking process making it safe to eat by children.

Frequently Asked Questions:

How do get a tender meat and crispy skin on chicken wings?

The best way to avoid dry meat or know if any protein is ready is to check the internal temperature. Wings are no different. Grill over indirect heat for the and remove the wings at 180 internal degrees for the perfect tender and juicy meat and crispy skin

What can I use in place of alcohol?

A great substitute for the rum is apple cider vinegar, apple juice or simply just leave it out.

Can I make this in the oven or stove top?

All my recipes can be replicated in the oven, stove top or gas grill. You do not need a big green egg or weber grill to replicate any of my recipes.
