- Brown Sugar
- Paprika (not smoked)
- Chili powder
- Onion powder
- Morton Kosher Salt
- Black pepper
- Granulated garlic (sub with garlic powder)
- Dry mustard
- Allspice
- Dried thyme (optional)
How to make it
- Whish dry rub ingredients in a medium bowl, until the mixture is well combined and no clumps remain.
- To “dust” to the rub, blend the ingredients in a good processor or spice grinder until it reaches desired consistency.
- Use Pitmaster rib rub immediately or store it in an airtight container in the cupboard for up to one year. Check on it periodically, for clumping.
BBQ Rib Rub Basics
- True barbecue relies on a few key steps. The most important factor in building flavor starts with a rack of good-quality pork ribs.
- Next, choose the right rib rub and cooking method. Low and slow on a smoker or grill will produce fantastic BBQ ribs. However, you can also make tasty ribs using your oven.
- Choose the right BBQ sauce or Rib Glaze to tie it all together.
- Let the ribs rest before carving!
How to use a rib rub
- This rub makes enough for 2-3 racks of spare ribs.
- Remove the membrane from the bone side of the ribs.
- Blot excess moisture with paper towels.
- Combine ingredients for the Pitmaster rub. Transfer it to a large spice shaker for quick and easy application.
- Apply a thin coating of yellow or Dijon mustard to the meat side of the ribs, then apply the BBQ rub on both sides. If you don’t have mustard on hand, a little oil, hot sauce, or Parkay margarine.
- You can add 1-2 tablespoons of this dry rub to BBQ sauces or injection marinades.
- Season grilled vegetables or add some to your next potato salad or favorite party dip.
