As was the case a year ago, the New York Jets have high hopes for the upcoming season, and they’re looking to become legitimate Super Bowl contenders in the loaded AFC.
Quarterback Aaron Rodgers is apparently recovered from the torn Achilles he suffered in Week 1 last year, and the team has added a couple of reinforcements.
While some are hyping up the Jets again, some others have their doubts, and there has been talk that perhaps offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett shouldn’t be their main play-caller.
But he will continue to do just that, and Rodgers told Adam Schein that he trusts Hackett, per Mad Dog Sports Radio.
Hackett, of course, was Rodgers’ offensive coordinator on the Green Bay Packers from 2019 to 2021, and during that time, the Packers won 13 games each season while reaching the NFC Championship twice.
Rodgers also won his two most recent regular season MVPs during Hackett’s time as Green Bay’s offensive coordinator.
Hackett received plenty of criticism when he became the Denver Broncos’ head coach in 2022, as the Broncos made their fans endure a historically bad offense despite the arrival of future Hall of Fame quarterback Russell Wilson.
After getting fired late in the 2022 campaign, Hackett became New York’s offensive coordinator last season.
He will have an additional weapon in wide receiver Mike Williams, as well as some offensive line help in eight-time Pro Bowl tackle Tyron Smith, to go along with wideout Garrett Wilson and running back Breece Hall.
Of course, New York’s success will largely hinge on how well the 40-year-old Rodgers plays and whether he ends up remaining healthy throughout the season.
