No one is picking the Atlanta Falcons to win this upcoming season’s Super Bowl championship, but they have assembled what looks to be a competitive team.
They have brought in Kirk Cousins, a four-time Pro Bowler, to play quarterback, and they have promising young weapons in wide receiver Drake London and tight end Kyle Pitts.
At running back, Atlanta has Bijan Robinson, who is coming off a strong rookie season.
Per Ari Meirov, Robinson said that the new coaching staff will use him somewhat like how the San Francisco 49ers use Christian McCaffrey, which will likely mean more touches in the passing game.
McCaffrey, last season’s Offensive Player of the Year, is one of a handful of true dual-threat running backs in the NFL, and Robinson seems to have the potential to be one himself.
In 2023, Robinson ran for 976 yards and four touchdowns, but he also caught 58 passes for 487 yards and four additional touchdowns.
In three seasons at the University of Texas, he totaled 3,410 rushing yards, 33 rushing touchdowns, 60 receptions, 805 receiving yards, and eight receiving touchdowns.
One of the best things going for the Falcons is the fact that they play in arguably the weakest division of the NFL, and many are picking them to win the NFC South this coming season.
One concern is the fact that Cousins is coming off a torn Achilles, but if he isn’t able to play or play well, it will present an opportunity for Michael Penix Jr., whom they took with the No. 8 pick in April’s draft.
