Chiefs Have Made A Decision On Kadarius Toney’s Contract

With the Kansas City Chiefs looking for help at the wide receiver position, the team made a trade with the New York Giants back in October of 2022 to bring in Kadarius Toney, which was thought to be a brilliant move by the storied franchise.

Unfortunately, things haven’t exactly worked out with Toney in Kansas City, as he hasn’t lived up to expectations or even made that much of an impact, as he’s arguably been more of a distraction than an added weapon on the football field for Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid.

With Toney not being the game-changer that the team hoped he would be when they acquired him in a deal with the Giants, the team seemingly had no intention of picking up his fifth-year option, which would’ve paid him $14.4 million guaranteed.

According to Dov Kleiman, the Chiefs have officially declined Toney’s fifth-year option, which will make the wide receiver an unrestricted free agent next year.

Last season, Toney played in 13 games for the Chiefs, racking up only 169 yards and a touchdown on 27 receptions, which obviously isn’t ideal for a player that the team traded for to boost the passing game in Kansas City.

Fortunately for the Chiefs, the team addressed the wide receiver position during this NFL offseason by signing free agent Marquise Brown and drafting Xavier Worthy out of the University of Texas.

With the addition of these two wideouts, Toney has become that much more expendable, especially if Brown and Worthy become favorite targets of Mahomes next season.
